Back to School Metro Tour

7:45 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Get set for a day of "Field Trips" across the Metro! We will set out first thing in the morning to explore some of the historical and cultural treasures in our own backyard. Our first stop will be the Iowa State Capitol where we tour this iconic state treasure, the only 5-domed capitol in the country.

Next, it's off to Mainframe Studios to tour this unique space - home to a creative community of more than 135 artists ranging in all types of disciplines. 

NO SACK LUNCHES on this field trip! A delicious meal will be prepared by Tangerine Food Co, the premiere caterer for both Mainframe Studios and the Des Moines Art Center. Their dishes are freshly prepared and sourced locally from farmer's markets and community producers.

After lunch, we will tour the Art Center with its extensive collection of paintings, sculpture, modern art and mixed media.We finish off the day with some Back-to-School shopping in Valley Junction. Bonus: It's Thursday in the Junction and the Farmer's Market will be in full swing!
